The rare case of a Ma'Alaketh One Light corvette being captured, seemed to be an ideal ship to use by pirates for long range attacks. However, something about manned Ma'Ali warships, was that all the systems would auto destruct upon capture of the ship. So the ship itself and its technology was beyond Free Peoples' ability to fix. However, certain parts were still salvagable; and more so, the type 3 particle beam itself. The stolen Orchis type IV corvette became the perfect candidate for the mating of the type 3 particle beam: The Orchis IV used to have a rather powerful plasma beam as its singular armament, making it the only plasma-based corvette in the Sol fleet. Just by sheer chance, the size and mass of the PAB-3 could take the place of Sol's PB-2A quite perfectly, without effect to the superstructure.
