Briefing
As an alternative flagship to the Astral Light beam cruiser, the Dark Star follows the same architecture, albeit with weaker engines and shields. But the dampening field more than suffices for the inadequacies of this ship; an encounter with a Genari Firestorm cruiser in the year 2196 proved the Dark Star's tenacity against a well-armed and armored capital ship. When a Force Commander leading a small fleet came in with his Firestorm flagship, he managed to infiltrate the perimeter; several Ma'Alaketh beam frigates in the area came to the region's defense. But it was the showdown between the Dark Star and the heavily armored Firestorm that led to the Force Commander's failure in taking that region. Exchanging fire from a distance at first, the Firestorm came in for close combat; however to the Genari commander's frustration, his elite tactical officer was unable to connect most of the Firestorm's weaponry. A wave of 6 marine pods were sent out; but the PDC's destroyed two-thirds of them. Even with its hull and armor being nearly three times the Dark Star, a battle of attrition forced the Genari flagship out of the sector with only 9% structural integrity remaining.
