Briefing

When the Portegha Matriarchy developed the most advanced heavy laser beam, then upgraded it, they were considered a match to Sol's best plasma technology. The lasers were so large however, that they could not be mounted on smaller warships. The Devastator cruiser was essentially built with the HLB-8A in mind, with 130 crew members and two corvettes' worth of mass to support these lasers. Two lasers were mounted, putting out enough combined damage to take out a frigate. The wings were extended to allow for two powerful fission warheads as well. Compared to the Firestorm Cruiser, the Devastator is more focused on range than damage output -- and with its quad fusion drives it has greater maneuverability than the Firestorm. The two large protrusions in the back support the central force field system, and are designed to enhance the force field strength beyond its normal rating.
