Briefing
The Sol Imperium Navy needed a bridge between the workhorse destroyers, and the massive, expensive cruiser capital ships: Late in the Genari war, the Kumano light cruiser project began at the advanced projects shipyard on Sirius II. Taking the engines & weaponry destroyers like the Leningrad supported, but on a bigger platform, the engineers were able to increase the hull strength as well as the crew capacity. A more efficient force field and larger scanners rounded out the improved hardpoints. The increased mass does tax the engines making them less efficient with movement, but the ship is designed to absorb large hits from Genari destroyers and take minimal damage. This ship has become popular with officers and crew for its rather spacious quarters and living areas, and its advanced medical bays.
