Briefing
In competition with the Sirius-based light cruiser, the shipyard at Tau Ceti III had its own designs on a small cruiser. Foregoing the heavy design of a defense-based warship, it focused on speed and firepower. A radically new superstructure design under the supervision of Vice Admiral Kenichiro belies a more fluid transfer in darkspace. An indirect benefit came from this in combat: It took less time for a ship of this mass to escape when activating the Dark Matter drive. With Genari capital ships now taking part in hit and run strikes all across the border, the Mercury could intercept in emergencies faster than any other ship in the fleet. Along with its quadruple plasma beams and plasma warhead, it made these light cruisers very common in hot combat zones.
