Nagara

Briefing

With the success of the Montana-class cruiser, and the advent of heavy cruisers becoming the new flagships of the 2180s, there seemed to be no need for another cruiser-class warship. Vice Admiral Kurosawa saw it differently: Long range, first strike capital ships were always important in large battles, since Genari scientists still had not cracked the plasma beam technology yet. The Nagara became especially useful when attacking Genari bases -- the ship has such range on its triple PB-8 beams that it could stay out of an enemy bases' firing range and destroy it without risk of return fire. Kurosawa saw the ship as 'mobile long range artillery', and used it for several strategic assaults on heavily defended regions protected by Genari Battlestations. The Nagara's long, slender design also contributed to a more stable, focused and enhanced platform for more accurate hits and bonus damage at extreme range. Some also speculate that this ship was designed with the Ma'Alaketh in mind, for if there ever was open conflict with them, the Nagara would be Sol's first line of defense. To the Genari, these shadowy figures are called 'Dark Ships' -- an omen of a large assault forthcoming.
