Crossing the boundaries of a light warship, the newest dampening field systems at the time allowed ships as large as destroyers to be shrouded in distorting waves that reduced the accuracy of enemy weapons. The Ti'Allaaron destroyer was the go-to ship for this kind of defensive system, as its triple particle beams could be fired safely from a distance, ensuring it would not take any weapons fire until the opponent was in point-blank range. The shield systems are also quite capable of absorbing what may get through the field, and even with the power drain of the dampening field the ship is still reasonably maneuverable. Many aspiring captains wait to get their first Shadow warship when they are promoted to this rank.
