Even while the successes of the Baltimore heavy cruiser showed no need for a bigger warship, the escalation of 'bigger guns' continued against the Genari. While the Special Operations Exeter Heavy Cruiser was underway, another secret project, the Yamato Battleship was also being worked on at the same time. The Admiralty knew that the Genari were almost finished with their own 1 million-ton plus superheavy capital ship, and that they were planning on building something even bigger. The Yamato, though astronomically expensive to produce, launched ahead of schedule with successful trial runs through Epsilon Eridani. Inspired by Admiral Kurosawa, the Yamato was designed with a lot of classic Japanese styling, with the second old Earth war Empire of Japan in mind. The seagoing battleship at that time was the biggest, and had the largest guns ever constructed. Instead of a plasma-beam centric warship ethos that most Sol ships followed, this Battleship supported a loadout of eight plasma warheads with only two secondary beams. The warheads are defense platform-grade, with omnidirectional defense and extended range equal to its beam weapons. It was thought best to save the power that could have gone into charging beams to make the ship more mobile in combat. And it has proven to be true: The power to damage ratio of this ship is 1:3, compared to 1:1 for most Sol warships.
