The Exeter's monolithic design is arguably the most unique looking Sol warship ever built -- and it was designed this way on purpose. A new subdivision of the Sol Navy had been created specifically to find new ways to tackle the Genari threat: Special Operations headed by Vice Admiral Kurosawa. The first warship to be launched out of their shipyard at Epsilon Eridani was this large, modified cruiser as an alternate to the Baltimore heavy cruiser. When it was first seen orbiting around Vega II for its initial cruise, some captains unfamiliar with the Special Operations project thought it to be a new alien ship or a Ma'Alaketh cruiser. While the Baltimore was designed to engage Genari capital ships and fleet groups in decisive battles, the Exeters' purpose was to lead invasion fleets deep in Genari territory and break morale. That is what made the ship unique: Its profile from a forward view. Anthropologists studying Genari culture and religion working with Special Operations noticed that many more religious Genari worshiped and feared a unique god-like monolithic figure -- thought of as their god of death and judgement -- god of the underworld. This was proven to work in practice, as an assault on a sector near Ghazah showed Genari warships' indecisiveness and slowed response in combat. Perhaps the Exeter has less effect on veteran captains and officers, but basic Genari crew are definitely affected by its presence. If that was not enough, the Exeter supports six powerful heavy plasma beams, each as massive as a corvette class warship, delivering heavy damage at range. Its superstructure was also integrated with tier 3 force fields, which was superior to what the Baltimore could support. Some do believe, however, that the monolithic structure is a cover for some form of appropriated dampening field, that generates a weaker form of the Ma'Alaketh device.
